In my professional practice, I work to provide clients with an environment in which they can rediscover their voice and restore their sense of personal power and natural creativity. When we use our own unique voice, we can more confidently create and carry out unique solutions to the problems we face.
I work through a person-centered, attachment-based lens and utilize approaches based on Ego State Therapy and Internal Family Systems. This means I value the relationship between myself and my clients and see the counseling office as a place where you can experience insecurities and difficult emotions while receiving unconditional warmth and acceptance. The trauma-informed approaches I use help to create a language in which you can treat yourself and all your parts with some kindness and compassion, as well. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and this approach can help individuals more clearly understand traumatic experiences and to see themselves in a more factual, positive light.
Claire Montgomery, MS, LPCC
I believe for better and for worse, we need humans. The for better, when we are living in healthy connected relationships, that generally feels good for us. The for worse, it’s really hard to human with other humans, and this is often a source of our distress. As a therapist, I help clients better understand their past and present relational patterns. I help clients find healing to empower them to show up as their authentic selves. Therapy can be so ambiguous at times. It is for this reason I provide individuals with the brain science of how we interact in the world while helping them set clear, realistic goals in their lives.
I utilized an attachment-based lens that is grounded in trauma sensitivity that allows individuals to explore their experiences within a safe relationship. I am trained in brainspotting which is an alternative form of therapy that allows individuals to process past difficult experiences including anxiety, depression and trauma. I have also received training in Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and SMART Recovery. When not at work, I enjoy being in nature. I have enjoyed exploring the remote wilderness of northern Minnesota with my two dogs and being on the water.
